a.clean.home

Close the door
and do the dishes
by the dozen
in water tainted red
do the washing
colours only
all the garments
stained in red
dust the rooms
all wooden cupboards
figurines, cups, books,
the family portrait
sweep the floor
like mother taught you
scrub it well
like grandma would
top it off with oily polish
make it shine
it's not just wood
wipe the sink
now buff it nicely
till you break your manicure
washing's done
so hang it quickly
hang the shirts right
very gently
hang the trousers
one by one
all socks, the bras and panties
hang them all
fill all the lines
hang them all
the sun will burn them
dry them all up
just like you
when you're done
sit in the sofa
it's your home - so squeaky clean
immaculate
a perfect metaphor
for all your pain
